כבר היית שם פעם?
כבר היית פעם שם?

Which is the idiomatic way of asking someone if he's been someplace? The context is that two people are talking about various cities in Israel. One of them says, "Oh, yes, Eilat is very beautiful." The other one wants to ask him if he's been there.

Both sound good to any Hebrew speaker. The difference between the two is more grammatical and even as a Hebrew speaker,
I am not sure which of the 2 is more grammatically correct.

In any case you should add the word "האם" to the beginning of the sentence, which is the parallel of "have you" in English :

    ?האם כבר היית שם פעם

    or

    ?האם כבר היית פעם שם

    No, no.
    האם is archaic and unnecessary.
Otherwise Angli is correct. But Bothcan be used in this context.
כבר היית שם פעם is maybe a bit more natural-sounding.
