haven't gone / been to the cinema for ages

Senior Member

I'm quoting an example from an course book entitled: English in Mind Workbook 3:

According to the key the verbs in the following example should have the following forms:

- Did you see any films last weekend?
- No. I haven't gone to the cinema for ages.

I want to ask about the answer. Shouldn't we use: No. I haven't been to the cinema for ages. (?)

Or maybe both options are acceptable.

Thank you.

    Hi sunnyweather,
I agree with you .. I would say been there.
Gone is acceptable, but would not be my choice in conversation.
