Having been selected for the final interview, they were asked to fill out the questionnaire.

Hello,

Regarding the above sentence I made, is it also possible to use "Selected" instead of "Having been selected"?

    1. Having been selected for the final interview, they were asked to fill out the questionnaire.
    2. Selected for the final interview, they were asked to fill out the questionnaire.

No. Example 2 is not okay.

Thank you all! Is this because the word "select" intrinsically doesn't have the notion of an action that carries on over a period of time? One has to be done and over with before something else happens as a consequence of that?
