He abandoned her but refused likewise to abandon her child.

Just a sentence I made up to understand how to use 'likewise.' I am using likewise to mean: in a similar way. Meaning, he abandoned her but refused to abandon the child in a similar manner. Is likewise placed correctly in the sentence?

    Abandon is abandon. Since you don't describe the method of abandonment (is there one? Car, foot, motorcycle?), then you don't need likewise. Just drop it.
