Hearty meat

I have no idea what a "hearty meat" is, and how to translate in french... Is it some kind of meat, or does it indicate some quantity or size of the piece of meat?

I have never heard meat described as 'hearty'. A hearty meal, on the other hand, is a common expression. Are you sure about your source? What is the complete sentence?

    Well, I don't think so...
It's probably some specific sort of meat, but I can't figure out.

The context could be : "You can add cloves to hearty meats"...

I'm sure it's meats and not meals.

    Hello Branwell :),

Do you have some more context please? "Hearty meat" sounds unusual. I expect "hearty meat [something]".

Edit: I've just seen the posts above.

    Heart meats?

Well, I believe, from the photos and the recipes I can find, that it's more or less "viande hachée"...

I'm not really happy about this though.

    Thanks anyway!

In this context I believe hearty meats refers to strongly flavored meats. This would make sense because cloves are a "strong" spice.

I'm not a big meat eater, so I'll leave it to someone else to think of examples of strongly flavored meats (if indeed that's what is meant by "hearty").

Yes I agree with sejean. A 'hearty meat' would mean venison, beef, bison, etc. As opposed to more delicate meats like poultry.

    OK, it's probably the idea.

Maybe I can translate, very simply, by "viande rouge"...

    I'll go with this.

    Thanks a lot!
