Hi everyone,
I am starting a reseach project where I need a database of African countries in various languages, with alternative spellings and case variants. Basically, I need to be able to identify country names in texts in those languages, in all different grammatical circumstances.
I also need to know whether language names can refer to anything besides the country in question. For English, the term "Guinea pig" contains Guinea but does not refer to the country Guinea.
I was hoping that kind souls out there would help me look through the following table of names that I found from wikipedia, and tell me if any other spelling variants exist, if the language has a case system that may produce variations in writing, and if the names mean anything other than the countries.
BTW : I am also interested in Sindhi, Burmese, Kannada, Sinhala, Maldivian, Marathi, Telugu, Odiya and Gujarati, but I haven't yet started on those lists.
Thanks in advance for your help!
