Hindi: eating carpet strictly prohibited?

Hi!

The sign below is from an airport in India. I'm curious about what the Hindi says. Does it actually say "eating carpet strictly prohibited"?? And if so, why??

Or is the English a mistranslation of the Hindi?

    Haha, yes, it is a mistranslation. The Hindi version says: "Eating on the carpet/floor is strictly prohibited." I think, it means, you are not supposed to sit down on the carpet and eat food - presumably meant to keep it clean.

    The Hindi version uses "floor" in fact, not even a carpet. Maybe the Hindi version was meant for passengers and the English version for any existing rats :D

    It shows India's thoughts on how bad Western food is. :p
    At the same time, amazed they put the nuqtaa in saxt.
