How would you say "south" when using it with place names. For example, "South Africa" or "South India" or something?

thanks

    Salut Amélie :)

The proper Hindi word is "daxiN" (nasalised 'n')
    In Hindi: दक्षिण (e.g. दक्षिण अफ्रिका - South Africa)

However you would very rarely hear people actually referring to South Africa like that - they would just simply say "South Africa". "daxiN afrikaa" would be used in the news and books and things like that. That's what I think anyway :)
