hit the lottery

    Although it may be technically inaccurate, it's fairly common. "I hit the jackpot" is common in Las Vegas and I imagine it's a parallel or a variation of that. Personally, I say "win the lottery" but I would understand "hit the lottery".

    Good point. I would even say "I hit the jackpot! I've won the lottery!"

    (In reality of course, if I did win £14 million, I probably wouldn't say anything ;) )
