    Tampa, Florida (hurricanes!)
    English Canada (blizzards!)
    (1) hizo como que no se daba cuenta
    (2) hizo como si no se diera cuenta
(he made as if he hadn't noticed)
The first sentence does not use the subjunctive, but the second sentence does.

    Why the difference?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Spanish - Spain
    (1) It is common in spoken languaje.
    (2) It is really the rigth one: the subjuntive express a speculation sentence. In this case, the speaker believes by guesswork that he/she does not realize.
