Hold an outstanding position

Hello everybody,

Does the phrase "hold an outstanding position" meaning "be considered very important (as a professional, person, etc) in a place (company, society, etc)" sound natural/correct in a bit more formal conversational English?

a. John holds an outstanding position in the company. His opinions and decisions are extremely important.
b. Brazil holds an outstanding position in the meat-producing business. It produces most of the meat consumed in many countries.

Thank you in advance!
