Cos'è la "Horse Guards Parade".
Ecco il contesto (si parla della Tower of London) :

" There are two soldiers on horses outside Horse Guards Parade"

Grazie!

"Horse Guards Parade" is the name of a place in central London; it is near Whitehall, which is the centre of government.

It is miles away from the Tower

Is it? There must be a mistake in the text... Anyway, what kind of place is it? Why is it called "Parade"?
    Thank you

You can see it in this image - it is the large open area in front of the the white govenment buildings.

So called, because it is was once used as a parade ground (piazza d'armi?), and for ceremonials. Horse Guards is one of the government buidlings (once the HQ of the British Army) - no doubt the name had something to do with the mounted troops who once stood guard there.

I visited London twice but I really didn't know about that place, yet it is important!
    Thanks again...
