Could someone help me with this exression? I don't understand what it's mean in this sentence.

She was the only organization thinker to not only challenge the chief, but let some hot air out of the leader’s balloon too.
Elle était la seule intellectuelle à défier le chef mais elle...

    Je pense que ça veut dire = à le faire redescendre sur terre ( au sens figuré)

    Si vous enlevez de l'air chaud d'un ballon, il pert de l'altitude.

    someone who is "full of hot air", is one who is full of themselves, self-important, and is "inflated", like a balloon. The hot air balloon rises with its hot air, and to let out some hot air implies a direct confrontation which reveals to all, or rarely done in private, that the "leader" is "full of himself", and is recognized as such, seen as being self-impressed.

    OK donc quelque chose comme :
    Elle était la seule philosophe de l'organisation à défier le chef mais aussi à le faire redescendre sur terre

    Euh ..non plus , ni intello, ni philosophe plutôt cadre "stratégique" ou consultante interne, ça mériterait un autre fil...
