Sample sentences:

1. How could you pass the exam when you'd not worked for it?

2. How could you pass the exam if you'd not worked for it?

Interpretation:

Interpretation of sample sentence #1:
1a. The exam was in the past. How was it possible for you pass it considering the fact that you'd not worked for it?

Interpretation of sample sentence #2:
2a. The exam is now or in the future. How would it be possible for you to pass it if you'd not worked for it?

Question:

Is my interpretation correct?

    Sorry...no. The sentences are incorrect.

    1. How could you have passed the exam when you'd not worked for it?

    2. How can /will you pass the exam if you're not studying for it?
