It is important to know the context. Is the speaker a waiter or a consular official, for example?

The context is a real estate broker asking a customer over the phone how he would like to pay for the upcoming purchase of a new home. It would also apply to other out of pocket expenses such as earnest money which in fact in the state of Kansas (US) can take any form even a jewel or a car or luggage. Usually cash paid by check however.

In that case I would specify the "thing" they are paying

como quiere usted efectuar/realizar el pago de la casa, con tarjeta.....?

Oh that sounds good. Very official yet not pushy...very nice. Thanks. I hate to sound pushy when asking for money. Just so gauche.
