What is the difference between (1) and (2):

(1) How do you know that?
(2) How did you know that?

And could you please give me some good examples that help me to understand the difference clearly enough?

    Hello, owlman5

Yes, I have already cheked them out but I couldn't find the exact answer I am looking for. To me, (1) often sounds like it implies a surprise, a doubt that the person really does know, or a suspicion that he has no right to know, whereas (2) sounds like it often implies that the person is correct and expresses puzzlement as to how the person found out.

Thank you for specifying your concern, Hiden. A little context helps people give you better answers in here.

I agree that (1) could express doubt that the other person really does know something. I agree that (2) could imply surprise that the other person knows something that happens to be true.
