Hello,

Could you change this sentence to a bit formal one? I don't think I can use such word as like in formal English.

It was not like I could study forever hoping to get lucky enough to pass the exam. (I was preparing for one of the toughest exam at that time. So I thought I needed to move on to do something else if I fail/failed(?) again.)

How would you put it?

Thank you in advance.

Replacing like with as though sounds a bit more formal to me, Mack
