How it is called if you rent somethig, and you give as a guarantee something ???

For example I want to rent a motorcycle for an hour
so they tell me to leave something as a guarantee that I will bring them back the motorcycle
????
Would "deposit" or "guarantee" be fine ???

In British English it would be "deposit", as far as I know.

The term security deposit is sometimes used. When you lease property you leave a security deposit. If you use a credit card to rent a car or motorcycle, a hold is put on your account for the amount of the deposit, otherwise the rentor would require that you present cash.
