    Moodler,

Hut: an often small and temporary dwelling of simple construction.

Cabin: a small, roughly built house usually with a wood exterior which is typically found in rural areas.

In my opinion, the differences are:

A hut is not as well built, usually built out of things like bamboo, palm leaves, etc. A cabin is built out of logs or boards.

A hut is generally found in tropical regions. A cabin is generally found in rural areas (in the U.S., anyway), especially in the mountains.
