Hi,

I am on the bus ..The bus goes to Melbourne but there is a stop before that where I need to get off .

Is it the stop before last ? or the second last stop ?

Thank you,

Claude.

"The second to last stop" (no need for "the") is fine. If you want to sound impressive, you could also say "penultimate stop." :D

Since Claude would more than likely be in Australia when s/he asked this question, s/he'd be understood perfectly if s/he said, the second last stop.

If you want to sound impressive, you could also say "penultimate stop." :D

Elizabeth, if s/he said that s/he wouldn't sound impressive; s/he'd probably be told that s/he was on the wrong bus! :D
