I am taking dinner

Hi, please can the sentence "I am taking dinner" mean the same as "I am having/eating dinner"? Thank you

  • The two sentences do mean the same, and both are correct, but as Qcumber points out, "having" is the familiar expression.

I usually only see "taking" in reference to where the meal is being eaten, as in, "I am taking dinner in the study." It's still old-fashioned, though.
