I apologise on behalf of my father

Hi,
I'm looking to translate the sentence:
"I apologise on behalf of my father but he isn't really a fan of animals"
So far I have:
Je m'excuse au nom de mon père mais il n’est vraiment pas un mordu des animaux.
Does that sound ok?
As far as context is concerned, I'm apologising for my father replying "good" when a friend told him her cat had died!
Thanks in advance!

    très bon.
However, I would not write "un mordu des animaux", coz he could really have been bitten by an animal !
    Un fana des animaux.
    Un grand amateur d'animaux.

You could phrase it differently with, for example :

Veuillez excuser / Je vous prie de bien vouloir excuser mon père
Je voudrais vous présenter les excuses de mon père
