How to say ¨i appreciated your email and I want you to know that I recognize better now the good that you intended, and that you cared...¨

    If I were writing a letter to say to somebody what you are saying, I would write "agradezco" or if you want to use a past tense: "me alegró ver tu email" but in this case I wouldn't write "agradecí". You use "agradecí" when you are reporting a past action, for example:
    "Le agradecí a mi hermano la ayuda que me prestó"
