I came to Italian late in life

In the sense of “started to learn”, how about:
“Sono arrivato all’italiano tardi nella vita?”
Or perhaps, “Sono giunto all’italiano … (?)
Thanks in advance.
M

Write the sentence also in the first post, not only in the title, thanks

OK ... well. it's not dialect.
I'm from the south of England and have alway spoken a neutral kind of English.
The expression just came to me naturally - as an alternative to "started to learn".
I wanted to try something a little different from "started to learn".
I've just tried Mr Google with "I came to the piano late in life" and this produced a hit.
