I decided to go home instead

Hello,

The context is that I'm trying to write something comical, in which I say that, although many famous explorers such as Christopher Columbus, decided to stay in the lands that they had discovered, I decided just to go home instead, after my holiday.

How would I say instead, in this context? Could I say:

"Aber ich für meinen Teil, habe ich , nach meinem Urlaub, beschlossen stattdessen nur nach Hause zu zurückkehren"

Thank you for your very helpful corrections Ablativ.

I see clearly now that the verb beschliessen is always used together with zu, that's very helpful.
