I especially enjoyed the boat trip on the Thames.

Would you be so kind as to tell me whether 'especially' can refer to 'the boat trip on the Thames' here?

Thanks.

What else could it refer to? The verb 'enjoy' here goes together with its object, which is 'the boat trip on the Thames'. Or am I missing something?

Oh, I see. Well, now that you mention it, it probably is possible, but the 'I' would have to be emphasised while saying the sentence. I cannot see this happening in writing.

The only way I can think of doing that would be to write the sentence using commas: "I, especially, enjoyed the boat trip on the Thames.
