"I have just applied for the Summer 2010 term and havebeen waiting for the University of Alberta to issue me an ID number. I hope to be able to be part of the Continuing Education Department this summer."

I will apply for an intensive english course of a university. <<...>> I am not sure about the last sentence. Maybe, I should use "I hope I can be a part of..." instead of "I hope to be able to...". <<...>>

Thank you very much for your help.

What you wrote is fine. Perhaps you can shorten it somewhat by saying: "I hope to be part of the ...".

    Yes, have after and.

The way this is written leads me to think that you will be employed by the department. You might want to add, "English course" after Department - "Department's English course".
