This clause makes me confused. Could anyone help clarifying the meaning or coming up with the alternative sentences, please :)


"I surprised at Rowenna’s request. She was a nice girl, I thought. Nice girls do not drink. But I kind of could do with a drink myself, so I came back with the bottle."
