How do I say „I know this band from their album „Vine anul nou” from 1998”?

• Cunosc această trupă de pe albumul lor „Vine anul nou” din 1998?
• Cunosc această trupă pentru albumul lor „Vine anul nou” din 1998?

As a general rule it's not a good idea to translate English text into Romanian and expect it to sound natural. Give us a bit more context about what you're trying to say beyond the "I know this band from their album „Vine anul nou” from 1998".

It seems the construction "I know this band from their album ...” is correct and would be translated as ”Știu această trupă după albumul lor Vine anul nou!”

În Română e adesea folosit știu după, eg știu după glas, după nume, după mers, etc ... Dacă faci o căutare dexonline.ro pt cuvântul după o să îți dai seama că așa e

The OP's construction is OK in English but doesn't sound OK in Romanian. We don't say “Îl știu pe Arghezi după volumul Cuvinte Potrivite”...

În functie de context, pe care OP nu l-a precizat, am putea spune: L-am cunoscut pe Arghezi ca poet citindu-i volumul de poezii Cuvinte Potrivite”.

Cu referire la o trupă de muzică: I-am ascultat prima dată pe cei de la ’trupa X“ la festivalul de la Costinești sau, primul album al trupei X pe care l-am ascultat a fost ’Vine Anul Nou’ din/lansat în 1998.
