I love mornings, if just they could come a bit later, I would be much happier.

What I want to ask is "could" the right word here?
I'm a bit confused.. I do not know whether or not is this word interchangeable with came?

Thanks :)

"Could" sounds fine, Djzuza. You should change the position of "just" in the sentence. Also, your punctuation is wrong. You need a period after "mornings": ...If they could just come a bit later,...

"Could" isn't a form of "come". It's a form of "can".

You could also write your sentence like this without really changing the meaning: I love mornings. If they just came a bit later, I would be much happier.
