Hi,
could you help me how to say this? In sentences such as: I won't be in for a week or so, boss, I really need to take off for a little bit to spend some time with my family.

I would only need the translation of "to take off".

Thanks

Colloquially speaking you may use the verb "staccare".

In a more formal way, I suggest you use the expression "prendersi una pausa"

    How's that?
