I'm watching "Good Place" drama. Chidi and Michael were talking about Chidi's manuscript and hobby.
Michael wanted Chidi to try new challenges, getting out of his comfort zone but Chidi really didn't want to do so.
And Michael talked about Chidi's manuscript and said "I think you just twisted yourself up into a knot."
Is this sentence a idiom? I tried to google this expression but there aren't many result found.
Could anyone help me?

    It's not an idiom as far as I know. Do you know what series and episode this was? We might be able to find out what was the matter with the book. Do you know what Michael thought of it?

    Michael thinks Chidi is very smart guy though, his book has no changes.
    I guess that's why Michael wants Chidi to experience something new so that it could be helpful to his writing.
