I was so taken by...

Dear all
can I please have some help with this phrase - how would I say "I was so taken by" the lovely leather cover and the way it opened; ... I would like something more exactly the same as the sense of English conveyed, than 'die Lederhülle hat mir so sehr gefallen'....
Danke im Voraus...

Maybe you could use "eingenommen", but it sounds a bit dated:

Ich war von dieser Lederhülle so eingenommen, ...

Weise alone sounds like melody/tune. So if you mean Weise in the sense of kind (of sth.) we usually use the hendiadys Art und Weise, just as we never use the term Maler alone, if we want to designate a craftsman and not an artist. The painter as an artist is just a Maler, whereas the painter as a craftsman is a Maler und Anstreicher.

The official occupational title of the painter as a craftsman is Maler und Lackierer.
