Hi fellers :)

Yesterday I said this in class: "I`m trying to write a report, and ideas are coming on and off"

I just wanted to say that ideas were coming up and then I forgot them , but I don`t know if that expression makes sense at all.

Could anyone tell me if it`s correct? and if it is not, could you let me know of any expression with a similar meaning?

Thank you very much :)

Actually, I never hear the expression exactly as you stated. You could reverse it and say, "the ideas come off and on" , "the ideas come and go" or "the ideas were coming and going" (but like la zarzamora said, with the last one, you might sound a little mentally disorganized).
