Hello,

I'd like to know if there's an idiom for this case: This prototype is ok <for a start>—meaning that the quality, quantity or whatever is acceptable to start working on something, but eventually it's likely to improve and change.

Thanks!

 Surely This prototype is okay. is sufficient. The whole point of prototypes is that they're changed/improved over time ............. isn't it?

Maybe you are right. My example is not perfect, but I want to learn the expression that I could apply to many cases.

:) for starters is another (very informal) one.
Does it work in this case?

I though its definition is a bit different:
5 for starters spoken informal used to emphasize the first of a series of facts, opinions, questions etc:
Well, for starters, you’ll need to fill out an application form.

Which one do you mean? ~ if it's for a start, yes that's fine, and it's more formal than for starters so you could use it pretty much anywhere:)
