    If there are no universals, why would we experience such delight when someone else shares our joy in discovering that same beauty? Why would we seek beauty in the first place?

    In this context a "universal" is a shared experience.

    Example

    I have experienced pain.
    You have experienced pain.
    My dog has experienced pain.

    So Pain is a universal (experience) shared by all (or most) living creatures.
