Could anyone please tell me if the following sentence is correct?

Bob Hope said that a bank was a place that would lend you money if you could prove that, didn't need it.

The sentence is not correct. There should be a subject with the 'didn't need it'. Also, there should be no comma.

I agree with Blue. It's a fairly famous quotation.
