Hi

Today, I received a text message from an unknown number saying: "Hello, how are you?"
I replied: Can you please tell me your name?
They said: I'm John Fitzgerald.

I asked in disbelief: (John Fitzgerald is my class-fellow) "If you're what/who you've said you are, then please call me on my phone so I can know who you really are/so I can know you are really John".

My questions: 1) Is the bold sound natural?
2) Can I use both "what" and "who" in the bold?

Thank you

What would also refer to an occupation:

"Oh, you say you are a doctor... well, if you are what you say you are, can you mend my broken leg?"
