Utilizzerei soccer anzichè football per evitare confusioni soprattutto se si tratta di American English.
Che ne dici di qualcosa del tipo "I like soccer from time to time" oppure "I don't mind soccer..."? Hanno una leggera sfumatura di differenza nel significato.

I like soccer/football a little. But this sounds more natural whne you're listing other things at the same time.
I like soccer a little but I like hockey a lot!
You can say I like football a bit but again it sounds better when you're listing things you like. A bit is very very little, however.
You can't say I like football from time to time. You can say I like watching football games from time to time on TV.
