implantable applications

"To meet the rapid development of energy storage devices, extensive researches are currently devoted to develop power sources, such as lithium-ion batteries (LiBs), supercapacitors (SCs), solar cells, and fuel cells. These devices require new technologies such as nanotechnology for light-weight and even implantable applications."

Above sentences are taken from the book "Lithium Batteries_Science and Technology". Can anyone clarify the meaning of "implantable applications" to me?

It probably refers to devices that are implanted in the human body, such as pacemakers and cardiovertor-defibrillators.
