Hi, everyone!

I'm not sure about my translation of this sentence, can you help me?

"Mancò tuttavia il sostegno popolare e la settimana culturale finì in passivo".

It refers to a cultural week organised to raise funds which was unsuccessful.

My try:

"The event was not supported by the population and the cultural week ended in the red (at a loss)".

Thank you

I think you can use "ended (up) in the red" or "finished in the red" but also "did not break even". Rather than supported by the population, perhaps a little more natural, could be simply "poorly attended" as in
However, it (the event) was poorly attended and the cultural week did not break even/finished in the red.
