in shake-and-strike mode

Hello, I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what this phrase means...
"He walked toward me with his hand out, in shake-and-strike mode".
It's about a lawyer, possibly pretty opportunist, power suit, sharky grin, etc.. I assume he just has his hand out to shake his client's hand in a very, I don't know conquering? way... But I'm really not sure..
Any suggestions??? Thank you in advance!

Thanks!

Well yes, but he doesn't actually say it out loud. Just looks like he is going to... I think archijacq's last proposition does convey the idea quite well. thank you both!
