hi there

I was a noble robber, well-versed in the concepts of justice, and never snatched more than two bushes from one plantation, and those just two were a pretty big hell of a load to haul.

It's a self-made sentence.
The source is here.
Context: pillaging cannabis plantations in the neighborhood.

Do those articles around 'hell of' belong there?

A hell of a load is a lot heavier than a pretty big load, so "pretty big" is simply weakening the impact of "a hell of a load". We wouldn't use the two together as you have done.

    thank you!
That's what I needed, not telling me how to re-write but indicating where it should be done.

Almost. They were "still one hell of a load".

"Still" indicates despite only being two, it was a big job.
