intense challenges & a precise destination

    The way I understand it when reading the entire paragraph is that she seemed more about having an intense experience (challenge) than having a precise destination. Since it mentions white water rafting for example I guess one could see it as just rafting for the thrill of it, rather than having a longer goal of becoming maybe a professional white water rafting instructor or something similarly specific. So it's about the experience rather than the bigger goal.
