One meaning of into is:
Maths used to indicate division: ex. three into six is two

How does "into" go in this sentence?

Thanks very much :)
  • Yes, it means how many times does three go into six. i.e. imagine that six is a box with enough room for six tins. Three is a multi-pack of three tins. You can fit two multi-packs of three tins into the box for six tins. That what it means, if you keep adding three to three, how many times will you have to do it before you can make six. (All of that is how to make sense of the use "into", Cyberpedant and yourself are right, it means divide and Cyberpedant's post on the usage is correct.)
