Can't quite get my head around the concept being presented here. This is from the summary of an exercise regarding scenarios of public investment in different agricultural sectors in a country in Latin America. The results of the scenarios are ranked by sector, showing the sectors in which the investment has the greatest impact in four specific indicators. These results are shown in a table, and the corresponding text says: La silvicultura aparece en lo más alto por tratarse de un sector intensivo en el uso de capital (natural) que promueve la inversión y el crecimiento del stock de capital físico.

i get lost at: que promueve la inversión y el crecimiento del stock de capital físico. What promotes investment and growth of physical capital stocks, and how can this be translated? It sounds like silviculture and the use of natural capital promotes investment in/growth of physical capital stocks, which doesn't make sense to me.

For the moment, I've got: Silviculture ranks first due to its intensive use of natural capital, which promotes investment in and the growth of physical capital stocks.

Thanks very much in advance for any light you can shed on this.

  • “Stock”, en español, es una voz inglesa en referencia a la cantidad de algo disponible, y en general, para uso futuro.

“….which promotes the investment and growth of the supply (or availability) of physical capital.”

Thanks Joe. I still don't understand the sentence, but thanks very much for your help with the translation.
    Let’s see if this helps:

Silvicultura (forestry) promotes the investment in, and use of, physical capital: that is the (stock) of machinery and equipment needed to exploit and manage those natural resources. (such as trucks, excavators, sawing and milling plants, etc.)

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you!
