Je voudrais dire:

The cops in the Washington case (murder case).....

To be involved in qqch. Is the phrase etre engagé à qqch or s'engager à qqch.

Les flics qui ont été engagés au dossier Washington...

Les flics qui sont s'engagées au dossier Washington....

    Basically no: neither engager or s'engager mean "involved". "engager" would mean they'd been hired for or assigned to the case, and "s'engager" would mean they'd committed themselves to the case.
