I don't get when you should use not and when no as negative answers. Could you explain to me?

    I don't think we ever use 'not' as a negative answer. It's always 'no'. One rare example might be in answer to a question ending 'or not':

    A: Should I do this, or not.
    B: Not.

    But that's not a serious answer, it's a kind of linguistic joke. Have you got a real example of 'not' as an answer?
