it’s not like anyone really cares

Dear all,
this is from the novel I Believe in a Thing Called Love by Maureen Goo.
The narrator tells Luca that her father is a mechanic.

“Not a job that a lot of the parents of people at this school
have.” [says Luca]
I shrugged. “No, but it’s not like anyone really cares.

I guess the red part means that no one is concerned about her father being a mechanic. Is this correct?

    Yes, that's what it means. Of course we don't know if she's saying it with appreciation or resentment - that depends on the context.
