It was a pleasure having you in class

Are there any consecrated phrases similar to "It was a pleasure having you in class" or "having you as a students" that instructors use in French when writing to students? "Cela a été un réel plaisir pour moi de vous avoir dans ce cours" or "de vous avoir comme étudiant" sounds a little odd to me; is there a better alternative in use?

Thanks in advance!

I guess it really depends on how familiar you can be in the letter, though I assume with students it doesn't have to be too formal either, but then again, you never know... Another suggestion : "Ca a été un vrai plaisir de vous avoir en classe", or "J'ai été très heureux/se de vous avoir comme élèves."
